Singapore Youth Olympic Games 2010

The inaugural summer Youth Olympics, which will be hosted by Singapore, will be held from 14 to 26 August 2010.
The Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games hopes to create a lasting sports, culture and education legacy for Singapore and youths from around the world, as well as enhance and elevate the sporting culture locally and regionally.
This summer YOG lasting for 10 days will alternate every four years with the Winter Olympics which will take place in Innsbruck, Austria in Year 2012.
The games will involve some 5,000 athletes and officials along with estimated 800 media representatives, 20,000 local and international volunteers, and more than 500,000 spectators. Young athletes - aged between 14 and 18 years - will compete in 26 sports and take part in Culture and Education Programmes
The YOG is an international event that embodies sport, culture and education. Accordingly, it aims to inculcate in young athletes the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect. Through their participation in the various sports events, cultural and education activities, the athletes would get the opportunity to network with peoples from other cultures and in the process forge lasting relationship and friendship. They will also learn more about the Olympic values and how these values can apply in their lives.
On 16 August 2010, the President of the 5th Student Council, Scott Ang, represented Singapore in the triathlon in the inaugural Youth Olympic Games. Scott waited at the finishing line to congratulate participants who completed the race after he did. Well done, Scott for displaying such tremendous sportsmanship!
