NCC Sea unit was opened officially in 2001. It was the first year the sea unit competed in the Best Unit Competition as ACS(I) NCC Sea Unit after transferring from NCC Sea HQ. They garnered creditable Silver which was an impressive feat for a newly opened school unit. Over the years, the unit grew in strength. With a supportive Senior Administration, dedicated teachers and ACS(I) boys eager to prove themselves, the sea unit achieved the Gold award for BUC in 2004. In 2005, the unit achieved its best result ever by clinching the Best Sea Unit trophy and it was placed as the 3rd Overall Best NCC unit in Singapore.
The NCC syllabus has common elements in the tri-service units. Just like NCC Land and NCC Air, NCC Sea also practices precision drill, individual field craft and camp craft, and takes part in orienteering and shooting competitions which it has done well in the past few years. In addition, the sea cadets go through an intensive kayaking program. By the time they reach Secondary Four, at least 90% of the cadets would have successfully completed a 2-star kayaking course. The highlight in the NCC Sea calendar occurs in Year 3 when the cadets put their kayaking skills to the test in the Annual Kayaking Expedition from Sembawang to Changi and back. Recently, as part of NCC initiative, the ACS(I) Sea unit had the opportunity to learn dragon-boat. They presented a night dragon-boat item to President S R Nathan in the 2006 National Camp.
The teachers and cadets are always thankful to the Senior Administration for their continuous encouragement and support and the rest of the school for its patience and understanding, with the belief that with God as our foundation and inspiration, we will always be successful. The Best is Yet to Be!
