ACS Crest

Established in March 2006, the newly formed ACS (Independent) Dance Venia has been growing ever since it was started by our teacher-in-charge, Miss Christina Kwek. Today, with a new teacher with us, Ms Laurence Van Koninckxloo, we are currently about 50 dancers strong.

We are called dancers, but that is merely a name. We are just a group of passion driven students, pursuing unity of the body and soul, expression and giving ourselves wholly to the music alone. We are nothing, yet we are everything, made complete in movement.

The year 2006 was an amazing year for us as we organized a dance camp in May to enrich our dancing lives. There were various workshops on the different genres of dances. Despite the hectic schedule, we enjoyed the three day camp very much.

On 29th July, we took part in the Crescent Girls' School Art Awareness Day cum launching of their new Art Conservatory Room. We had the privilege of performing for the Minister of Education, Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam. He was impressed by our Retro Disco number, and congratulated us on our successful debut performance.

On Teachers' Day, we also performed a truly original item to express our heartfelt gratitude for our teachers in the Auditorium for the school.

This year, our training sessions are held up to thrice a week in the new Dance Studio. We practice a wide variety of dances, ranging from Ballet to Hip Hop to Latin, under the wings of many talented instructors to polish our dancing skills. We hope to bring a bright future for the club and make the school proud by representing her in various performances and competitions.

Nobody is born a dancer, but everybody has the potential to be. Dancers are made through discipline and hard work, with grace acquired in time, and technique gradually absorbed. Thus, we invite you to leave your inhibitions at the door, get down on the dance floor and jive with us.
