2006 was an exciting a year for the ACS (I) badminton team. Both B and C division teams began preparing for National Inter-Schools as soon as the November holidays started, not withholding any effort to strive to improve ourselves as much as we can. The South Zone badminton championships were up first for the season and both teams breezed through the preliminary rounds with ease. In the finals both teams faced RI who proved to be formidable opponents. The C Div team rose up to the occasion and were clinical in their display as they triumphed over RI 3-0. The B division team, however, try as they might, could not overcome a spirited RI team and succumbed 3-1 in the finals.
The Pilot Pen Individual Championships were next on the list. The week-long battle finally ended with our very own Tang Xin Quan emerging 2nd runner-up in the competition. Tang Xin Quan, together with Yoka Larsoni Sutanto were then chosen by to joi' the Combined School's team to participate in the Asean Schools' badminton championships in Brunei Darussalem.
During the National Inter-Schools competition, both teams looked set on reaching the finals with outstanding and dazzling performances during the preliminary rounds. Alas, it was not meant to be this year for the B division team as they went down fighting in the semi-finals to Monfort Secondary School 2-3. The C Division team, on the other hand, proved to be more than worthy of their opponents as they went into the semi-finals and took out the favourites of the tournament, Maris Stella High School, with nothing but sheer grit and determination.
In the finals, although the C Division team lost to Monfort Secondary School 0-3, they displayed the character, perseverance, determination and the resolve to go down fighting. It was truly an admirable performance by the C Division team that afternoon.
Although both teams did not clinch the gold for the school, we are thankful for the many blessings God bestowed on us such as preserving each and every member of the team including the coaches, keeping us safe from injury and sicknesses. We are also thankful for the experiences shared amongst the team, not forgetting the friendships and bonds forged throughout the years. Last but not least, we would also like to thank the coaches, Mr Samuel Sim, Mr Faris Mawardi and Mr Andrew Chong for their undying support and invaluable advice to us.
The ACS (I) badminton team will overcome our setbacks and bring glory to the school for we all know THE BEST IS YET TO BE!
