PROCESSES

A developmental approach takes the students through the following:

DEVELOPMENTAL APPROACH
The developmental approach through it focus on the process of artmaking provides many opportunities for pupils to apply thinking skills. Such thinking skills include remembering, information gathering, generating, focusing, organising, analysing, intergrating and evaluating.

In the developmental approach, lessons are organised by themes or related areas of study to allow pupils to build on previous knowledge and skills to achieve deeper understanding of concepts and greater technical competence.

Exploring

  • generating ideas
  • gathering information
  • developing the ideas through:
    --- manipulating art elements
--- experimenting with media, materials and images and technique

Expressing

  • building a process diary
  • making art

Evaluating

  • evaluating artwork
  • reflecting on learning

This is a dynamic process. ' Exploring' , ' Expressing' and ' Evaluating' may take at the same time and pupils my vacillate between any two stages. However, one stage may be more dominant at any one time.
